Assembly was fairly straightforward and took around 30-40 minutes. It comes with a lot of screws to attach the shelves but they are simple to install and just takes a little bit of time. Unit looks great assembled and is solid.

This is pretty enough but it was was very difficult to assemble. The construction design is awful. I also thought it was really overpriced for shelves. I hope the high price tag was due to covid caused shortages in building materials, otherwise Inpaid way too much for this thing. If i ever have to move it, I dont know how I will be able to disassemble it without ruining the actual wooden panels. Poor design and over priced. No fault of purchasing from , just the manufacturer.

it’s a good quality product and was easy for me to assemble.

Most of the drilled/threaded holes were offcenter or the welds were, making it almost impossible to attach one part to another. Luckily I had spare parts after 3 screws became stripped attempting to assemble. Was not able to put one screw in at all. Once assembled, the shelf has a slight wobble.
May want to have something available to remove glue residue leftover from parts identity stickers.

The quality of the material is not bad. It felt fairly heavy and well made. One of the shelves had the predrilled holes reversed, so I had to improvise and make it work, which was disappointing. Normally, I do a better job inspecting the pieces before I begin. This time, however, I didn’t see the problem until I was 90% complete so didn’t feel like disassembling the whole thing to take it back. I’d carefully look at each piece beforehand.

Bought two of these for the home. Take your time putting together, and have an additional set of hands. It is easy to assemble the top and bottom incorrectly and not have the rear brace mounts on the wrong sides. And I had to tap two of the holes as they would not accept the screws because they were missed by the factory. Quality is pretty good but many of the shelves had small chips in them. Not a $180 shelf, but overall looks nice.

Package arrived early. When I opened the box all the screws were loose in the box.(-1/2 star) Fortunately they were all there. Easy to put together. The only issue we had was screwing the shelves in. Some of the shelves had pre drilled holes and some didn’t. Some of the drilled holes were in the correct spot others were not. (-1/2 star)With a little muscle we were able to screw the shelves on. It is being used for extra kitchen storage in an Airbnb.

This was not that easy to put together, yes they gave you the little wrench and the allen wrench, but forgot to tell you that you would need a phillips screwdriver at the end and a lot of muscle to attach the shelves. And then once completed it wasn’t square (pictures attached) but if you left it the way it was the shelves were plumb… if you tried to straighten it one side was off by 2 inches and then the shelves were off. What a waste of time and money. Glad this going to be in a room where no one will see. I would be so embarassed if anyone saw it. It’s assembled now so I can’t take it back, but like that tire commercial I wish I could throw it threw their window.

I loved the color of the wood and the rustic design of this book shelf. The only thing I did not like was it was hard to screw the nails into the bottom of the shelves to keep them in place. But luckily they were not really needed since the shelves were heavy enough and the items I placed on the shelves were pretty heavy aswell. I would definitely recommend this product!

I wanted this unit to give my library a unique look. Easy to assemble. For the Manufacturer, one thing I’d change is instead of using wood screws, replace them with same color bolts for a more secure shelving unit. Had problems with the wood screws taking hold of the metal frame. Actually, after placing the screws, the shelf could still be lifted upwards and out. After discovering this problem, I ended up only placing the two front screws and the middle screw on each shelf. The back two screws, I did not install. The unit is secured to my wall to prevent falling. It is very sturdy after putting it together which I really like. Thanks for taking the time to read my review. I am planning on purchasing a couple more of these units here in the near future. Even with the issues with the screws, still gave 5 Stars…

This set of shelves was easy to assemble, looks great in my house, and I’ve gotten a ton of compliments on the style! Feels sturdy and solid. Only issue is the price varies by about $40 from store to store in my area, since it seems to be on varying levels of clearance. I like the way it looks so much that I’ve just bought another!

We bought this to add shelving to a hall closet. The worst purchase I’ve ever made! It wasn’t all that easy to put together. A couple of the holes wouldn’t line up, the screws they give you to hold the shelves to the frame are way too short and they just fall out. After we finally got it together, it fell apart when we picked it up! I put it back in the box and took it back because I wasn’t going to be out $180 for a complete piece of crap!!

Listed at $65 in the store, there was a sticker shock when we got to the register. Not to mention we requested them two days ahead of time and they still had not gotten them down from top stock.
I actually made a YouTube video of us remodeling the bedroom. I admitted this is not more than a 2 star shelf. There’s too much space in the back. Things slide off event. It’s not a bookshelf. I needed a place for our books especially home school books. Text books and more do not fit on it. Even if you removed the bracing underneath each shelf, they still wouldn’t fit. The way that the brace is, a catches everything. We unfortunately bought two.
The head has been another $100 on baskets to put the note books and binders and text books in baskets and then put them on the shelf. Because after we spent hours putting these things together, it was a little too late to take them back. May be for the $65 that that they were listed at the store but not $200. Way too expensive

Being a DIY guy, I was going to make something similar myself. But seeing the $99 price tag, I decided to give these a shot (I bought 2). Here are my thoughts:
Pros:
– Easy to assemble. Piping is pre-assembled (welded).
– Very sturdy.
– Extra depth compared to others.
– Pipe fittings appear to be the real deal. Actual pipe is not, but that helps keep the weight down.
Cons:
– Actual shelves are some type of laminate veneer, but can easily be replaced with real wood, which I will do sometime in the future.
– Having 5 shelves, the space between shelves is only 11″. IMHO, this would be a 5 star product if it only had 4 shelves, allowing more space between shelves.

It assembled easily and is very sturdy. Love this bookcase, we have 3 of the 5 shelf in the same design and have been wanting the three shelf for a while. It finishes off the family room!

Love the quality of this bookcase! Paid $99 for it. Looks like a lot more $. Nothing cheap looking about this bookcase! Quality materials. Love that the screws, etc come shrink wrapped. The only tool you will need to provide yourself is a Phillips screwdriver. Everything else is provided. This 68 ye old single woman put this together herself. Easy Peasy! Directions and labeling of materials was awesome. It is very heavy. Had a hard time taking it out of my small car- the box was hanging a foot or so out of the window. Dragging and pulling and then flipping it into the house. Opening the box and taking the contents upstairs in small increments , could not handle the whole box..
It has nice wide shelves and is fabulous! Took about 1/2 hr to assemble. I actually enjoyed putting it together.. it was that easy!

I wasn’t able to make it past step one – one of the four “leg” pieces wasn’t made the same width as the leg it was supposed to slot into, and as such I’m literally unable to put it together. It’s not even warped – the manufacturing & QA is just that bad. Now I have to find a way to put the similarly atrocious packaging back together so I can return it.

This shelf unit looks awesome. I was really impressed with the quality of material and how well it was packed. It is exactly what I wanted; easier and less expensive at the sale price than the DIY version. They were easy to assemble (easier with two people), the instructions were easy to follow and included an accessory kit that was well organized, and everything lined up perfectly for assembly. We purchased two and both were packaged very well and all the pieces were blemish free. One box had taken a substantial hit during shipping and nothing on that corner was damaged. The carton had strong corner supports, foam lining, and padded with Styrofoam and cardboard layers. It’s a shame doesn’t carry these Whalen products year round as I was checking out Whalen’s website and plan to purchase a couple of other items.

Purchased for pick up thru local store. The frame isn’t level. All boards have scratches. The directions showed pre-drilled holes. Ours didn’t have pre-drilled holes. Huge warning sticker on one shelf. A board was broken on both sides so I called Lowe’s 1.5 hours from the time we picked up. I was asking to swap the board for the display. They refused but wouldn’t say why. The employees finally came up with there is an open box and they’ll swap the board out. I said I would be by tomorrow. No one had a clue what I was talking about and sent me back and forth departments. I asked for the asst. manager who agreed to swap the boards. He wasn’t on shift but the on shift asst. manager swapped it for the display shelf. Which the display shelf has the predrilled holes… This is the 2nd pick up Allen & Roth furniture I’ve purchased locally and both have been damaged.

Great piece of furniture, easy to assemble with the right tools. It looks great in the spot I decided to put it in. Very happy overall. Just be sure to have your own powered

When you spend almost $200 on an item, you expect a decent product. I hate ordering online, it seems to be more issues than convenience. I purchased in store only to get home, pull everything out of the box, for pieces labeled ‘A’ and labeled ‘B’ to not even line up for the screw to be inserted. Do you realize repackaging a product is harder than even putting it together? Sadly, I purchased 3 other shelving units from Allen + Roth brand and 2 out of 3 were damaged.

Assembly was relatively straightforward, but I had to battle a pipe welded at the wrong angle, which in turn put an important tapped hole at the wrong angle. This required slight bending of the back straps just to work. One of the main tapped holes for the frame was also completely gone, so the screw basixally dropped into the hole. I have to live with only have 1 screw on this particular part and leave out the 2nd. This should NOT be something a customer has to deal with. The factory should be able to tap and weld parts correctly.
On top of the quality control issues, it is 2021 for crying out loud. Use an adhesive on your part label stickers that DOESN’T STICK TO THE PARTS. I should not have to resort to a scraper, heat gun, or adhesive remover to clean the stickers off.

Looked cool so bought it. Box was pretty damaged but whatever. Felt the bottom (feet) and they have rubber nubs. So I decided not to put on the felt pads I have. While assembling I heavily scratched my wood floor in home I moved in to 2 weeks ago! The bottom metal rings on the poles are highly misshapen and poor looking. I believe messy edges on this were as low/lower than the rubber on 1 or 2 of the feet (not the one I checked ofcourse) and scratched up the floors.
It was missing some screws but it doesn’t matter because they hardly work. The boards are pre drilled too much and the screws hardly work. They fall out. As you move the shelf they just pop out everywhere. Several shelves are hardly held down and not level due to strange way the screws work (hard to explain unless you see it). Some of the shelves are damaged out of the box. Smashed edges/corners.
Hardware is not in a bag so you have to dig around to get everything you can find. Some of the allen bolts are wacky to put in. Wish I knew this stuff before buying.

I purchased this shelf and it went together reasonably easy but… several of the screw holes stipped out. the particle board is not predrilled so when you go to screw it down it disintegrates. I finally got it together and am keeping mostly because i just don’t feel like running back and fourth to return it and find another crappy unit. for the price i was hoping it would be pretty nice. it looked good at the store. put the screws into the particle board very slow. and don’t put too much weight on them. they will just pop off. basically the frame is ok. would be much better if they used real wood.

I have never written a review on a product ever. It is never worth the time IMO. But this had to be reviewed so others WILL NOT buy this.
The look of this is great. The assembly is far more arduous than the other reviews and description claims.
The “legs” of this are comprised of two parts which the directions call A,B, C, and D. The D “leg” was warped so I had to heat up the metal to bend it in place. Strike one. The attachment of the cross on the back, called E, was confusing and I just used common sense not the instructions to put it together. The hole did not immediately align so I had to pull it into place. Strike two. The shelves themselves have no predrilled holes which would be an issue if the wood screws didn’t easily go into the wood shelves (which they don’t so an issue).
Using a manual screwdriver was taking forever just to get one in so I switched to my power drill. I was very careful to “pulse” the drill so I wouldn’t splinter the wood. Only three screws went in easily with this technique all the others did not go in. I turned up the speed on the drill and nothing. I ended up overheating the drill. Strike a million. I have about seven wood screws left that just wouldn’t go in.
I’m a mechanical engineer, so I know my way around putting stuff like this together. I’ve put together wall mounts for 60 inch TVs, arcades, floating shelves, wall mounted bed frames, consoles, desks, etc. all was far easier than this.
If I were not exhausted I would throw this in my truck and take it right back. I’ll return it tomorrow just as is. Not even going to try to disassemble what I have.
Please spend an extra $50-100 on something of greater quality. I will.

I bought this product because the description said 28″ wide! It is NOT. The #’s on the box match the #’s on my order, the receipt shows 28″, but the product is actually 31″. We tried to call and they offered us $15 and said return it. If you need something 28″ DO NOT pick this shelf. Otherwise, construction is what I expect from .

Easy assembly and was bought for our plants since the weather is starting to get cold!

I’m not sure whether or not we got a unit from a bad batch, but this bookcase is just terrible. For reference, I’m not new to flatpack furniture construction. For starters, the side piping pieces had to be forced to fit together correctly. The holes for the screws to assemble the frame were mismilled, leading to a poor and slightly wobbly fit. The crossbars in the back are merely decorational – not at all supportive. Once together, either the shelves or the frame ends aren’t square, so each shelf fits a bit cockeyed on the metal frame. The provided screws don’t bite well into the cheap (and chipped) pressboard shelves, so we had to go buy better screws. The shelves are already bowing under much less weight than each shelf is rated for. One leg of our completed unit is nearly 1/4 inch shorter than the rest. Very disappointing all around.
